Clarkstown Model Aerodrome site & safety rules


ALL MEMBERS ARE EMPOWERED TO STOP ANYONE FROM OPERATING OR FLYING THEIR AIRCRAFT WHEN:

1. THERE IS A NON SAFE CONDITION.  This may include, but is not limited to, plane or radio not airworthy, pilot is beyond his ability to safely control his aircraft, pilot is not an AMA member, guest has not signed release form, smoking outside of member's car, behavior that endangers others. USE YOUR DISCRETION.
2. THE PLANE IS OUTSIDE THE APPROVED FLIGHT AREA
3. THE ENGINE EXCEEDS THE ACCEPTABLE SOUND LEVEL. USE YOUR DISCRETION. TALK IT OVER WITH THE PILOT. GET THE OPINION OF OTHERS.

ANYONE  REFUSING TO STOP A NON SAFE PRACTICE AFTER BEING TOLD WILL RECEIVE DISCIPLINARY ACTION, UP TO AND INCLUDING LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP.



 

SITE RULES ADOPTED AUGUST 12, 2003

1. Flying hours are 8:00 am until dusk, weekdays; 10:00 am until dusk weekends and holidays.  Electrics/gliders can start at 7:30 am
2. During hours when the landfill is closed, members must present their Club ID card to the guard at the entrance gate.
3. Guests are allowed by invitation only and must be accompanied by the member.  A member may bring only one guest pilot per day.
4. Drive with caution when entering the landfill site.  Speed limit is 10 mph.
5. No smoking or open flames anywhere within the landfill area!
6. No penetration of any kind shall be made into the surface of the landfill.  No personal tents.
7. Trash policy: "carry in - carry out".  No trash or litter to be left on site.
8. All engines shall have a muffler and not exceed 100 dB at 3 meters.
9. When refueling engines, an overflow container must be used.
10. Engine break-in or extended engine testing should be performed in an area remote from the pit area and flight line. 
11. Members must have AMA and RCRCC membership cards in possession while on-site.  Club ID card must be visibly displayed on member's shirt, hat, etc. while on site.
12. Club membership card should be placed in slot of frequency board when a frequency flag is taken.
13. The field entrance road gate should be closed when the field is not in use.  First car in opens the gate, last car out closes and secures the gate.
14. Park your car on graveled area of lot.  Members may drive on access paths for unloading/loading only.

 

SAFETY RULES

DO NOT FLY ALONE!

1. Do not fly alone! Second person must be able to drive and provide assistance in case of emergency.
2. All AMA Safety Code rules, latest version at the time you are flying, apply.
3. Perform a range check before each flying session.
4. All transmitters must display a frequency flag and be labeled with the pilot's name.
5. Upon arrive at the site, transmitters shall be placed in the impound area (shelves behind the frequency board).  No transmitter may be removed from impound without a frequency pin.  If two or more pilots share the same frequency, those pilots who do not have the pin must impound their transmitters.  Only the ID card of the member possessing the pin shall be displayed in the pin slot.  Make sure transmitters in impound are turned off!
6. Maximum number of aircraft allowed to fly at the same time is 5 power/glider and 1 helicopter.
7. Starting or servicing engines on the runway is prohibited.
8. Pilots shall stand within one of the designated pilot stations while flying.
9. It is recommended that airplane pilots utilize an assistant when starting an engine for testing or for preparing for flight.  Assistant restrains plane during starting sequence and ensures plane is safely delivered to runway or taxi area.
10. Pilots shall announce their intent to take off and land prior to doing so.  A plane making a dead stick landing has right of way over any planes attempting to take off or land.
11. Flying must be within designated flight envelopes.  No flying over or behind the pit area, parking area or spectator area.  Helicopters are permitted to fly behind the main tent area (mall side).
12. Aircraft retrieved from the runway should be removed as quickly and safely as possible.  Intent to walk across the flight line or onto the runway shall be announced and acknowledged by other pilots before doing so.  A spotter should be requested by the person entering the runway area to watch for other aircraft.

13. Members not flying should keep flying pilots informed of any observed conditions that could affect the safety of anyone on the site.
