Pictured here is a Curtiss P-6 Hawk at Christie Airport in New City circa 1933.  The airport was located on Haverstraw Road about a 1/2 mile from the 3 way stop sign on Main Street. A 1,600 foot grass runway was carved out of the 55 acre Christie Farm and was operational from 1929 to 1969.  The Christies also owned a gas station along Haverstraw Road.  All that remains of the airport at this time is the station which has since closed, and the small field behind it. The rest of the land was turned into residential housing after it was sold. Christie Airport was also one of the early stops in the country for airmail service in the 1930's.  If you want more information, you can visit the New City Library which has photos, newspaper clippings and arrival and departure schedules in the Rockland Room.
